Tracking Down The Insurrectionists, Broadening Horizons

Well, joint-smoking Capitol insurrectionist Eduardo Gonzalez was tracked down long ago, but last week his court-appointed attorney asked Federal Judge Christopher Cooper to allow him to travel to England for the Christmas holidays. Gonzalez was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor parading or demonstrating inside the Capitol, where he also openly smoked weed and passed it out to others. Judge Cooper's ruling is a classic:

“Defendant Eduardo Nicolas Alvear Gonzalez has pled guilty to unlawfully parading inside the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. While there, Gonzalez recorded himself smoking marijuana and sharing it with others. He is awaiting sentencing subject to certain conditions of release, including that he not travel internationally,” Judge Cooper wrote in a minute order posted to the online docket for the case. “Gonzalez has filed a motion to modify his release conditions to permit him to accept an invitation from a friend to spend the approaching holiday season in London, England. He offers only that such an opportunity ‘doesn’t present itself very often.’ Appreciating Defendant’s desire to broaden his horizons but finding the request one toke over the line, the court hereby DENIES the motion.”  (our emphasis)

"One toke over the line," sweet Jesus!
