When violent and unhinged gun fetishist Rep. Marjorie "Traitor" Greene (Coup - GA) appeared on Hungarian neo-Nazi Seb Gorka's radio poo-fling on Tuesday, she gave her dangerously twisted and ignorant view of what the Second Amendment was meant for:
"Ultimately, the truth is it's our Second Amendment rights, our right to bear arms, that protects Americans and gives us the ability to defend ourselves from a tyrannical government."
That's a lot of ignorant, NRA-style seditionist garbage. In truth, the Second Amendment was meant to allow the Federal government to quickly mobilize State militias ("A well-regulated militia..." reads the opening phrase) to defend the country, so a standing army would not be a burden on the new nation. The framers were also concerned about standing armies, hence the Third Amendment which followed, prohibiting the quartering of troops in private homes in peacetime. Greene then descended to further depths by tying it to her depraved violent political fantasy:
"And I hate to use this language, but Democrats, they're exactly ... they're doing exactly what our Founders talked about when they gave us the precious rights that we have. [snip]
The federal government has grown so big and the Democrats are willing to use the power of the federal government, that it really violates people’s rights. It’s a shame, we shouldn’t think that way. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. But we always have to make sure we are defending our Second Amendment rights and make sure our states’ rights are protected.” (our emphasis)
Notice that she throws the racist dog whistle "states' rights" phrase out, too. Some Dem Representatives (here and here, for example) have asked the U.S. Capitol Police for help in addressing Greene's literal workplace threats against them as Democrats. The police should take these threats of violence seriously, especially coming from someone as radical and mentally unbalanced as Greene has shown herself to be. An expulsion from Congress would be nice, but not as long as she remains a leading member of the Trump cult.
