"Representation of the world, like the world itself, is the work of men; they describe it from their own point of view, which they confuse with absolute truth." -- French writer and philosopher Simone de Beauvoir (b. January 9, 1908) in her landmark work The Second Sex (1949), her resonating critique of patriarchy. Her observations on the societal roles of women versus men pointed up the endless disparities in opportunities, creative outlets, and status challenged the thinking of the day, and was a significant work expressing feminist thought.
