"Proud Boy" Brownshirt Leader Charged With Conspiracy

The leader of the brownshirt-emlulating far-right group "Proud Boys" has been charged with conspiracy in connection with his role in the January 6 Trumpist insurrection, which attempted to overthrow the legitimate election of President Biden. Cubano gusano Henry "Enrique" Tarrio becomes the second leader of a pro-Trump far-right domestic terrorist group to be charged with conspiracy, following the charging of "Oath Keepers" leader Stewart "Aargh Matey" Rhodes in January. Tarrio, in a particularly cowardly move to distance himself from his group, recently has been describing himself as a "former" leader.

The indictment against Tarrio was unsealed in Federal court earlier today:

"An indictment unsealed in federal court in Washington on Tuesday accuses Tarrio of conspiring with other senior Proud Boys leaders, including Ethan Nordean and Joe Biggs, both of whom are already charged in connection with Jan. 6. The charges against Tarrio include conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding — in this case the formal tallying by Congress of electoral votes in Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory. The charges against Tarrio were added to the previously filed indictment against Nordean, Biggs, and other Proud Boys followers. [snip]

The new indictment pointedly ties Tarrio to Rhodes, noting that, even after Tarrio was ordered by a court to leave Washington, he did not do so right away. On Jan. 5, the indictment says, he met in a parking garage in the city with Rhodes and other individuals 'known and unknown to the grand jury, for approximately 30 minutes. During this encounter, a participant referenced the Capitol.'”

Prior to the January 6 insurrection, Tarrio had been arrested for stealing and burning a Black Lives Matter banner from a church during a Trumpist rally in Washington, DC on December 12, and for possession of a high-capacity magazine, serving four months in jail.
