Unconfirmed reports out of Ukraine say that a missile attack on a Russian command post near Kherson in southern Ukraine killed two Russian generals and critically wounded another:
"Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said in an online interview that 50 senior Russian officers were in the command center when it came under attack. He said their fate was unknown."
The generals were part of the 49th Combined Arms Army operating in southern Ukraine. A previous commander of that force, Lt. General Yakov Rezantsev, was killed in the same region in late March.
One of Russia's Achilles heels during the invasion of Ukraine has been its poor battlefield communications capability, forcing many senior commanders to communicate over open lines that the Ukrainian military can monitor. To mitigate that failing, senior Russian commanders have had to move closer to the front lines to direct their forces, resulting in exposure to shelling and sniper fire. Assuming that two Russian generals were killed, it brings the total to up to 10 Russian generals killed in less than 60 days of fighting, a remarkable tally.
