Looking back a looooong way to this week in 1962, when the top 3 songs in the U.S. were, in order, Acker Bilk's instrumental "Stranger on the Shore," Ray Charles' classic "I Can't Stop Loving You," and Dee Dee Sharp's "Mashed Potato Time" (backed up by The Orlons and with shout- outs to other contemporary hits). Each song hit #1 on the Billboard charts that summer.
Finally, we must pause to note the passing of the only surviving member of Buddy Holly's group The Crickets, Hall of Fame drummer Jerry Allison. Allison co-wrote several of their songs, including this 1957 classic which features his distinctive paradiddles throughout and which is named after his girlfriend/ later wife, "Peggy Sue." Hope you enjoy.
