As Russian missiles and drones hit civilian targets all over Ukraine for the second day today, the U.N. Human Rights office in Geneva is saying today that Russian thug Vladimir Putin's missile attacks on multiple civilian targets in Ukraine may have violated international law regarding the conduct of war:
"Russia's blitz on Ukrainian cities would amount to war crimes if civilians were deliberately targeted, the United Nations said Tuesday, branding the location and timing of the strikes 'shocking'.
Russian forces rained more than 80 missiles on cities across Ukraine on Monday, according to Kyiv, in apparent retaliation for an explosion that damaged a key bridge linking the Crimean peninsula to Russia.
The strikes 'may have violated the principles of the conduct of hostilities under international humanitarian law,' Ravina Shamdasani, a spokeswoman for the UN human rights office, told reporters in Geneva.
'Intentionally directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects, that is objects which are not military objectives, amounts to a war crime,"'she added." (our emphasis)
Putin's military is losing badly on the battlefield, so his preferred option for vengeance is attacking apartment buildings, power plants, and schools to undermine Ukrainian morale.
U.N. investigators have been investigating Russian war crimes in Ukraine since last spring, and have recently discovered evidence of war crimes in territory liberated by Ukrainian forces, including rape, torture and destruction of homes and buildings.
