U.N. Votes Overwhelmingly Against Illegal Russian Annexations

By an overwhelming vote of 143 - 5, with 35 abstentions, the U.N. General Assembly voted yesterday to condemn Russia's "attempted illegal annexation" of parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, announced earlier this month by Russian war criminal and thug Vladimir Putin following sham "referendum" elections. The resolution demanded that Russia reverse its illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory.

The vote represented the U.N.'s largest vote of support of Ukraine since Putin's vicious invasion last February. Following the vote, the U.S.'s Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield praised the overwhelming vote against Russia's aggression and land claims:

“The resolution also sends an enormously important signal to Moscow and to everyone: It does not matter if you as a nation are big or small, rich or poor, old or new. If you are a U.N. member state, your borders are your own and are protected by international law,” Thomas-Greenfield said. “They cannot be redrawn by anyone else by force.”

Russia's sinister Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the resolution "anti-Russian" (the first honest statement he's made in a long time), and said it resulted from "diplomatic terrorism" (the projection using the word "terrorism" is notable for his terrorist nation).

Predictably, the authoritarian countries joining Russia in voting against the resolution were Syria, Belarus, North Korea, and Nicaragua.  The 35 countries shamefully abstaining in the face of Russia's war of choice included the corrupt regimes of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Cuba, and China, with Russian energy-and-weapons-dependent India joining in abstaining, and giving legitimacy to wars that change national borders.
