CREW: We'll Seek Trump Disqualification From Office

The Malignant Loser is facing multiple indictments, potentially over State and Federal civil and criminal offenses, which may be issued after the mid-term elections. Or so we hope. One organization is promising that if the Malignant Loser runs for the 2024 Presidential nomination, he will be challenged on Constitutional grounds, having violated his oath of office in planning and engaging in a seditious conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.

The non-profit watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is planning to file a lawsuit to disqualify him on the basis of violating the 14th Amendment's "insurrection" clause. Commondreams.org reports that CREW has notified the Malignant Loser of their intent:

"'Should you seek or secure any future elected or appointed government office including the presidency of the United States,' CREW president Noah Bookbinder wrote in a letter sent to Trump, 'we will pursue your disqualification under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment based on your engaging in the insurrection that culminated on January 6, 2021.'

As the letter explains, 'Section 3 of the 14th Amendment provides that no individual who engages in insurrection or rebellion against the Constitution—after having previously taken an oath to support it—shall hold any federal or state office (unless Congress, by a vote of two-thirds in each house, removes such disability).'"  (our emphasis)

The Amendment was originally aimed at treasonous Confederates to keep them from holding state or Federal office, but has recently been applied to the January 6 coup. From CREW's letter:

"In September, a New Mexico judge ordered Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin be removed from office, following a lawsuit brought by CREW and others, ruling that the attack on the Capitol was an insurrection and that Griffin's participation in it disqualified him under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment."
With the Malignant Loser's deep pockets and habit of appealing every verdict against him, this is a long shot but one worth making if CREW (and any others who might join them) can stay with it.
