British blues icon John Mayall (who turned 89 yesterday) and his band, the Bluesbreakers, rose to prominence in the UK in the 1960s, but the band was best known as the spawning ground of some of the best rock and blues musicians of all time. Eric Clapton (Cream, Blind Faith), John McVie (Fleetwood Mac), Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) Aynsley Dunbar (Mothers of Invention, Jefferson Starship), and Jack Bruce (Cream) were a few of the players who were part of Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Today, we're featuring their 1966 song "Hideaway", with Mayall on organ, Clapton on lead guitar, McVie on bass, and Hughie Flint on drums.
(Sadly, we learned after this post was published that Christine McVie, John's former wife and the singer/ songwriter/keyboardist mainstay of Fleetwood Mac, passed away today at the age of 79. A major talent lost.)
