Long Ago And Far Away

Here's colorized film of Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1922 -- specifically on July 5, election day.  It was a significant election day, because it was the first in which women had the right to vote, standing in long lines even by modern American standards.  One of the women casting their ballot in the film was Queen Mother Emma (who arrives and departs in a sedan accompanied by attendants).  As they came in, the results were depicted on a mechanical racing board, "locomotives" representing each party -- a horse race, albeit with an iron horse.  The results weren't so great for parties of the left, as it turned out.
