The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The good:

The Department of Energy plans to announce Tuesday that scientists have been able for the first time to produce a fusion reaction that creates a net energy gain — a major milestone in the decades-long, multibillion-dollar quest to develop a technology that provides unlimited, cheap, clean power.

The aim of fusion research is to replicate the nuclear reaction through which energy is created on the sun. It is a “holy grail” of carbon-free power that scientists have been chasing since the 1950s. It is still at least a decade — maybe decades — away from commercial use, but the latest development is likely to be touted by the Biden administration as an affirmation of a massive investment by the government over the years.

Huge amounts of public and private funds have been funneled into the fusion race worldwide, with the aim of ultimately manufacturing fusion machinery that could bring electricity to the grid with no carbon footprint, no radioactive waste and far fewer resources than it takes to harness solar and wind power. Beyond the climate benefits, promoters say it could help bring cheap electricity to impoverished parts of the world.

“To most of us, this was only a matter of time,” said a senior fusion scientist familiar with the work of the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, where the discovery was made... (our emphasis)

The bad:

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, suggested that the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot would have succeeded if she was in charge.

Greene was among the high-profile guests to attend and speak at an event hosted by the New York Young Republican Club in New York City on Saturday evening. Others in attendance included former President Donald Trump's son Donald Trump Jr., Rudy Giuliani, and commentator Jack Posobiec.

During her address at the event, Greene touched on the Capitol riot, a subject she has been consistently outspoken on, and said that rioters would have been successful had she and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon been in charge of them, according to the New York Post.

"I want to tell you something, if Steve Bannon and I had organized that, we would have won," the congresswoman said. "Not to mention, we would've been armed."  (our emphasis)

That this treasonous troll is going to be calling the shots in the House over the next 2 years is just an embarrassment to anyone who's not a submoron like MTG.  Her yapping about how ruff 'n' rtuff she is reminds us of the famous line from Dashiell Hammett's Sam Spade:  the cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter. And MTG's as cheap as they come.

The ugly:

Critics are pushing back after Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday morning that his "pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci," taking aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden's soon-to-be retired chief medical adviser.

In his tweet, the billionaire, 51, appeared to mock pronoun use and said: "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci." The comment has been liked more than 560,000 times and retweeted over 90,000 times as of Sunday afternoon.  [snip]

Former CIA director and Obama White House official John Brennan took to Twitter to voice his concern with Musk's Sunday tweet, saying, "Dr. Fauci is a national hero who will be remembered for generations to come for his innate goodness & many contributions to public health. Despite your business success, you will be remembered most for fueling public hate & divisions. You may have money, but you have no class."...  (our emphasis)

More reactions at the link, and here and here.  What a garbage person he's revealed himself to be.  And he's just getting more dangerous and unhinged.
