The signs are there, including an increasingly fascistic party now controlling (barely) the House of Representatives, led by dangerous, violent extremists like MTG. Turning the burners off under the pot will be a difficult and long-term process. The far- right major media (Murdoch, etc.) and social  media (Musk, etc.) are powerful allies of American fascism and will keep turning up the heat, hoping we won't notice.
