Right-wing sexual assault protector Rep. Jim "Gym" Jordan is doing everything he can to derail the case in Manhattan against his cult leader's hush money payment to an adult film actress. He held a field hearing last week in Manhattan to divert attention from the Malignant Loser's situation and claim that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is letting crime run wild. He's also subpoenaed a former prosecutor from Bragg's office to get confidential information that would compromise the case. In that last move, he has a Trump-appointed Federal judge working for him. From the Associated Press:
"U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil rejected Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s request for a temporary restraining order, finding that committee chair Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, had a valid legislative purpose in issuing the subpoena to former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz.
'It is not the role of the federal judiciary to dictate what legislation Congress may consider or how it should conduct its deliberations in that connection,' Vyskocil wrote in a 25-page opinion. 'Mr. Pomerantz must appear for the congressional deposition. No one is above the law.'”
That little statement at the end is meant to ironically tweak prosecutors for having the temerity to prosecute her lawless cult leader. It's noted in the article that the judge issued her 25-page ruling only two hours after hearing arguments from both sides, suggesting that she had her ruling prepared before listening to those arguments. She also ruled the day before Pomerantz was scheduled to appear, making an appeal of her ruling very difficult.
The Trumpist judge threw some howlers in her ruling, one being that Gym had a "valid legislative purpose" in issuing the subpoena, when clearly Gym's purpose is to pry sensitive information out of the former prosecutor, obstruct the hush money case, and discredit DA Bragg.
The ruling is being appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: The Appeals Court just put a hold on Pomerantz's testimony, to give them more time to consider Bragg's appeal.
