Experts: Kremlin "Attack" Drones Launched Nearby

Drone experts have analyzed the footage of the drones flying over the Kremlin and have surmised that they are the type and size of drones that were likely launched within Russia, and likely near Moscow. Russia has falsely accused both Ukraine and the U.S. of being behind the drone attack without providing evidence, leading to the suspicion that it may have been a false flag attack orchestrated by the Kremlin to justify further aggression in Ukraine. From Reuters:

"Moscow has been very concerned about protecting the Kremlin from drones since at least 2015 when it began using electronic countermeasures to automatically direct them away by 'spoofing' GPS locations, said Dana Goward, president of the non-profit Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation, which advocates for tougher and redundant GPS.

'Spoofing' occurs when a counterfeit GPS signal is sent to replace a legitimate one, electronically fooling guidance systems on drones or other devices.

Goward said the sophisticated defense devices could mean that the type of drone used, which he believed to be mid-sized, 'was likely not using GPS but was either manually controlled - suggesting a nearby launch - or just pointed and set upon a path, kamikaze style.' [snip]

'It is surprising this drone was able to fly through all of Moscow up to the Kremlin without being detected and destroyed,' said Blake Resnick, founder and CEO of drone maker BRINC.

'The relatively small size and low altitude could help. If the drone was not utilizing GPS and not communicating with a ground control station, that would also harden it from jamming or spoofing techniques,' Resnick said."  (our emphasis)

With the launch of Ukraine's counteroffensive imminent, and increasing evidence that Russia is ill prepared for it, the Kremlin wants a pretext for the type of missile assaults launched over the past two days against Kyiv and other population centers. Russian war criminal and thug Vladimir Putin is also worried about Russian morale, with huge battlefield losses over his 14-month military disaster in Ukraine, and needs some rallying point with Russia's "Victory Day" commemoration coming up on May 9. What better means than a false "attack" on the iconic Kremlin to justify retaliation and to rally support for his criminal war?
