Chicago- born blues/ R&B/ soul singer Lou Rawls, born on this day in 1933, was a lot more than a gifted performer. He was also known for his charity work, notably the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon, which raised over $250 million for the United Negro College Fund over 26 years, until his death in 2006.
"Love Is A Hurtin' Thing" was his first hit in 1966 (#1 on the R&B charts), and what we're listening to today.
