With the Arctic ice cap melting at a rapid rate, and fewer ice floes for species like the polar bear to inhabit, finding places for resting on is increasingly difficult.
Nima Sarikhani, a British amateur photographer, won this year's People's Choice Award for Wildlife Photographer of the Year, photographing this poignant scene of a young bear napping on a tiny iceberg off the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, deep inside the Arctic Circle. Entitled "Ice Bed," the photo won over 25 other curated photos by a panel of judges at the Natural History Museum in London.
