QOTD -- "The Polls Were Wrong"

"The latest round of opinion polling indicated a close finish was likely in the Democratic primary for Maryland’s open U.S. Senate seat. A Baltimore Sun-OpinionWorks poll conducted in April even indicated that it would be an easy win for [Democratic Rep. David] Trone.

"The polls were wrong.

"[Prince Georges County Executive Angela] Alsobrooks blew out the competition. By the end of the night, the county executive — often reserved and mild-mannered in public — declared victory before midnight. Early Wednesday, she commanded a more-than 10-point lead over Trone as ballots continued to trickle in..." -- Hallie Miller, The Baltimore Banner.  Surprise surprise. When it was all over, and after being outspent by 10- to- 1, the close race the pollsters predicted turned out to be a 12- point Alsobrooks blowout.

  1. I was stunned by this result. Maybe I should get out more.

I voted for Trone for two reasons, 1) I think a former US Rep has better experience for the Senate than a County Executive, and 2) I thought he'd be better able to reach the white suburban men we need to peel away from Larry Hogan.

There's a lot riding on this...
