In the days following the Trumpist insurrection on January 6, 2021, MAGAt diehards clung to the false and unpatriotic claim that the election was stolen from the Malignant Loser / Orange Turd. MAGAts flew the American flag upside down in the traditional sign of distress (see picture in post below). One wouldn't think an inverted American flag would be found in the yard of a Supreme Court justice, but one would be wrong:
"One of the homes flying an inverted flag during that time was the residence of Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., in Alexandria, Va., according to photographs and interviews with neighbors.
The upside-down flag was aloft on Jan. 17, 2021, the images showed. President Donald J. Trump’s supporters, including some brandishing the same symbol, had rioted at the Capitol a little over a week before. Mr. Biden’s inauguration was three days away. Alarmed neighbors snapped photographs, some of which were recently obtained by The New York Times. Word of the flag filtered back to the court, people who worked there said in interviews." (our emphasis)
Alito later claimed that his wife was responsible for the inverted flag after she saw an anti-Trump yard sign in a neighbor's yard. Riiiight! The flag remained up for days, according to neighbors. He's quite the chivalrous gentleman.
Eugene Robinson echoed host Joe Scarborough on MSNBC this morning when he commented:
"Now, of course, as Alito always does, try to sort of brazen his way through it. I mean, I'll just say it: I have thought for a long time that Alito is the worst justice, he is one of the worst justices that we have seen on the Supreme Court since the days of, you know, [Roger B.] Taney and the other justices that enabled decades of Jim Crow. I mean, he's just -- his opinions have always struck me as intellectually dishonest, coming out with a predetermined result. Now this. It is just stunning to me, stunning." (our emphasis)
There was also brief discussion about Alito's likely role in leaking a draft of the Dobbs decision, which struck down Roe v. Wade, in order to pressure the other right-wing justices in accepting the draft. This right-wing POS never belonged on the Supreme Court, and with every story like this, it just confirms that.
