Not waiting for facts or evidence to be presented in the assassination attempt on Trump yesterday, the Kremlin added its voice to those of several despicable Republicans who almost immediately blamed President Biden for the attack, seeing this shocking event as an opportunity to lift their right-wing cause and to muzzle Dems criticism of the MAGA agenda. The Kremlin's agenda in 2024, as it was in the past two elections, is to influence the elections to produce candidates favorable to their imperial designs on Europe and elsewhere, according to U.S. intelligence services. From Reuters:
"'We do not believe that the attempt to eliminate and assassinate Trump was organised by the current authorities,' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
'But the atmosphere around candidate Trump ... provoked what America is confronting today.'
U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the attack, saying there was no place for that kind of violence in America. Peskov said Russia condemned any violence in the course of the political struggle.
His comments echoed those of some of Trump's Republican allies, who immediately pinned the blame on Biden." (our emphasis)
The Kremlin is seeking any leverage over our elections to undermine opponents of its brutal and criminal war on Ukraine, which has cost it international standing but has not cost it the ability to prosecute the war. It's especially rich that the Kremlin would smugly comment on this attack, given war criminal Vladimir Putin's long history of eliminating his political opponents.
