In a letter to smarmy Christofascist Squeaker Mike "New Moses" Johnson, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has demanded that he swear in newly-elected Rep. Adelina Grijalva (D) after stalling her swearing in for weeks. From Politico:
"In a letter to Johnson, Mayes accused the House GOP leader of violating the Constitution by unnecessarily delaying the Democrat’s swearing-in ceremony.
'Arizona’s right to a full delegation, and the right of the residents of CD 7 to representation from the person they recently voted for, are not up for debate and may not be delayed or used as leverage in negotiations about unrelated legislation,' Mayes, who is also a Democrat, wrote in the letter.
Grivalja won a special election in Arizona’s deep-blue 7th Congressional District to replace her late father, former Rep. Raúl Grijalva, last month. Johnson has maintained Grijalva would be sworn in when the House is back in session — once Congress reaches an agreement to reopen the government — despite at one point telling reporters she would be sworn in 'as soon as she wants.'”
Imagine leaving 813,000 people in that Congressional District without representation, but since it's a heavily Dem district, that doesn't matter to Johnson. What does matter to him is that when sworn in, Grijalva would provide the 218th vote to approve the discharge petition that would force a vote on legislation requiring the release of the investigation files related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Pedophile protector Johnson has changed his statements on swearing in Grijalva, now stating that she will be sworn in once the House is back in legislative session. Johnson swore in two Republicans in April during "pro-forma" sessions, and the House has had brief pro forma sessions recently. The MF has previously stated that voting for the discharge petition would be seen by him as a "hostile act," clearly because he believes evidence of sexual acts with minors is documented in the files.
Of course, it would only take one more Republican to supply the vote, but spine and decency are lacking in that group of hypocritical pedophile protectors.
