On June 2, California voters will go to the polls to select candidates for Governor, but in this blue state, there are worries about how the "top two" candidates primary ( i.e. a jungle primary) might result in giving voters two MAGAt Republicans to choose from. The problem on the Dem side is a proliferation of candidates who are fragmenting the Dem vote, versus only 2 Republicans in the race. Three Dem candidates are polling in the single digits and their percentages have been dropping in the last three months: progressive star Rep. Katie Porter, former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, and former LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Perennial billionaire candidate Tom Steyer is running behind Rep. Eric Swalwell -- a major nemesis of the demented Malignant Fascist -- who is leading all candidates, but with only 27% support from Dems. As of March, a massive 25% of all voters were undecided, according to the Emerson College poll.
The California Dem party has been discretely suggesting that the lower tier candidates leave the race, so that the top Dem candidates can vie for their votes. With the monumental egos apparently needed for politics, it's questionable whether the single digit (and dropping) candidates will heed the message and save California's governor position for the Dem Party. Time to set egos aside and get real.
