D.C. 1, MAGA Gov. Youngkin 0

In a deal that represents a turnaround for the city of Washington, D.C., and a stinging defeat for Virginia's slick MAGA Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, the owner of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards has dropped Virginia as their new home and will remain in the Nation's capital. From the Washington Post:

"D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser and Ted Leonsis, owner of the Wizards and Capitals, signed a deal Wednesday that — if approved by the D.C. Council — would keep the teams in downtown D.C. until 2050, abruptly ending the owner’s planned move to Virginia.

Under the terms of the deal, D.C. will spend $515 million over three years to help Leonsis modernize the arena, and Leonsis will sign a new lease keeping the teams in D.C. for 25 more years.

The agreement includes other provisions that address some of Leonsis’s concerns about the state of downtown, which has struggled to recover from the pandemic, and allow his company, Monumental Sports & Entertainment, to expand in the city."

Leonsis was strongly courted by Youngkin, who wrapped his reputation around securing the move to Northern Virginia, touting the move's job and economy-boosting potential. When the Virginia legislature took a look at the backroom deal, they balked at the public price tag and the disruption to the local community, which overwhelmingly lined up against the proposal.

Youngkin, who played college basketball, is one of the many hungry MAGAt office holders who would like to inherit the Malignant Loser's mantle. No doubt he has Presidential aspirations for a 2028 run, but it looks like with this reputation-tarnishing development, D.C. Mayor Bowser has dunked on him.

Baltimore Bridge Collapse Has Its Conspiracy Loons

The fascist conspiracy loons are howling again, and it's not even a full moon:

Conspiracists and far-right extremists are blaming just about everything and everyone for Tuesday morning’s Baltimore bridge collapse.

A non-exhaustive list of things that are getting blamed for the bridge collapse on Telegram and X include President Biden, Hamas, ISIS, P. Diddy, Nickelodeon, India, former president Barack Obama, Islam, aliens, Sri Lanka, the World Economic Forum, the United Nations, Wokeness, Ukraine, foreign aid, the CIA, Jewish people, Israel, Russia, China, Iran, Covid vaccines, DEI, immigrants, Black people, and lockdowns.

By far the most popular conspiracy theory among the paste- eaters is that it was a "black swan event" (for you normal people the linked article translates this as an event triggered by the "deep state" signalling "an imminent revolution, a third world war, or some other apocalyptic catastrophe").  In the truly apocalyptic catastrophe of the Malignant Loser becoming President again, this brain- damaged conspiracist is going to hold a key position:

One of the first people to call the bridge collapse a black swan event was disgraced former US national security adviser Michael Flynn. “This is a BLACK SWAN event,” he wrote on X. “Black swans normally come out of the world of finance (not military) … There are harbor masters for every single one of these transit points in America that are in charge of assuring the safety of navigation … start there.” Flynn’s post has been viewed 7.2 million times.

To be clear, Baltimore's Francis Scott Key bridge was struck in a supporting pier by a container ship, MV Dali, that preliminary reports indicate suffered a catastrophic loss of power affecting its ability to steer.  But, fevered fascist brains can't miss an opportunity to find someone or something buzzing around in their empty heads to pin the blame on.  Funny how it's usually someone or something they already fear and despise.

Nightly News Bits

No way, No Labels:

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has decided against running as the No Labels candidate for president after spending time and money gaming out the prospects of a centrist third-party bid against President Biden and former president Donald Trump.

The decision leaves the group with few remaining high-profile options for candidates, despite widespread public concern over the two major-party contenders. [Ed.: well, at least the fascist one]

“I appreciate the encouragement I’ve gotten to pursue a third-party candidacy,” Christie said in a statement to The Washington Post on Wednesday. “While I believe this is a conversation that needs to be had with the American people, I also believe that if there is not a pathway to win and if my candidacy in any way, shape or form would help Donald Trump become president again, then it is not the way forward.”... (our emphasis)

Christie is displaying an admirable self- awareness and sense of duty to guard our democracy against the Malignant Loser.

Speaking of No Labels:

Joseph I. Lieberman, the doggedly independent four-term U.S. senator from Connecticut who was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate on the national ticket of a major party, died March 27 at his home in the Bronx. He was 82.

The cause was complications from a fall, his family said in a statement.  [snip]

His transition from Al Gore’s running mate in 2000 on the Democratic ticket to high-profile cheerleader for Republican presidential candidate John McCain eight years later was a turnaround unmatched in recent American politics.

Mr. Lieberman continued to draw Democrats’ ire after leaving the Senate in 2012, most especially with his efforts to mount a third party presidential ticket in the 2024 election. As a co-chair of the centrist group No Labels, he helped lead the organization’s campaign to field an alternative to the major party candidates — a move that some Democrats feared would take votes from President Joe Biden and help President Donald Trump recapture the White House...

If you can't say something nice... (but others, have at it).

QOTD: Lifelong Crook

New York Magazine's Jonathan Chait, writing today in the magazine's Intelligencer section. The conclusion:

"What’s unusual about Trump is not that a politician got into legal trouble, or even that a professional scammer went into politics, but that a political party allowed a crook to rise to its top. That, in turn, reveals the deeply unhealthy state of the GOP, not any extralegal steps being taken by his opponents.

Before he won the Republican nomination the first time, Republicans were perfectly aware that his decades of bilking customers and counterparties, lying to everybody, and surrounding himself with known criminals posed a series legal risk. Now that that risk has gone from theoretical to actual, and it is being shared by the Republican Party, they seem to believe it’s not fair to hold him legally accountable.

But no plot was necessary here. The law finally catching up to a lifelong crook is utterly predictable." (our emphasis)

Please read Chait's entire article, which documents the initial revulsion with the Malignant Loser by his now-captive party, knowing that he was deeply corrupt, and how they are now standing with him and repeating his lie that the Biden Administration / "deep state" is fighting him through "lawfare," using law to improperly persecute opponents.

Caught In "NEVER NEVERLAND"

After a revolt of NBC and MSNBC News staff and anchors caused the cynical suits at the network to pull the plug on pathetic Trumpist shill Ronna Romney McDaniel, she's now facing ostracism from his cult. The Malignant Loser, who forced her out of her RNC position after making her drop her middle name, has made it clear there's no forgiveness in his diseased, Bible- hawking heart for McDaniel, as he posted on his failing and delusional social media site:

"Wow! Ronna McDaniel got fired by Fake News NBC. She only lasted two days, and this after McDaniel went out of her way to say what they wanted to hear. It leaves her in a very strange place, it’s called NEVER NEVERLAND, and it’s not a place you want to be."

He followed with his patented ALL CAPS rant about leftists, NBC, ratings and overpaid talent. Clearly, the Malignant Loser was stung by McDaniel's acceptance of NBC's offer to be a "contributor" and may have expected her to spout MAGAese. When she shifted gears to please NBC, it failed. Now, she's out in the cold politically, but at least she can go back to using her middle name, Romney.

A reminder that "everything Trump touches dies."

Nightly News Bits

She gone:

Amid a chorus of on-air protest from some of the network’s biggest stars, NBC announced Tuesday night that former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel will no longer be joining the network as a paid contributor.

The announcement came in a memo from NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde, who said he had listened to “the legitimate concerns” of many network employees. “No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned,” he wrote. “Over the last few days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.”

Conde also apologized to employees “who felt we let them down” and took “full responsibility” for the hiring...  (our emphasis)

Now do Conde and Carrie Budoff "Bugger off" Brown, the NBC News execs who thought it was a great idea to hire the fake electors conspirator.

The very definition of blasphemy:

Donald Trump is peddling a new version of a Bible published by Grammy-winning country singer-songwriter Lee Greenwood.

In a three-minute, 15-second Holy Week message posted Tuesday on his Truth Social account, the former president and presumptive 2024 Republican nominee wrote "Let's Make America Pray Again" and accompanied his message with a video touting a "God Bless the USA Bible," which costs $59.99.

"It's very important and very important to me," Trump says in the video. "I want to have a lot of people have it. You have to have it for your heart, for your soul. Many of you have never read them and don't know the liberties and rights you have as Americans, and how you are being threatened to lose those rights.

"It's happening all the time," he continued. "It's a very sad thing that's going on in our country. But we're gonna get it turned around. Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from our country."  [Ed. -- at this point, if the Bible is to be believed, he should have combusted.]

According to a website for the Bible for sale, the product includes a handwritten chorus to "God Bless the U.S.A." by Greenwood, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance. The only offering is the King James version, with no other versions available. [snip]

The promotional messaging by Trump and Greenwood on social media comes one day after Trump seemingly compared his legal plight to Jesus Christ's persecution. In connection with his New York state civil fraud case, in which his bond was reduced from the $464 million he originally owed to $175 million, Trump shared a Bible verse, Psalm 109:3–8, on his Truth Social account. It was sent to him by an undisclosed individual.  [snip]

"Unrepentant grifter Trump is so desperate for cash that he's selling a 'God Bless the USA' Bible," wrote the X account Project Lincoln. "How much money do you think Trump gets off each sale?"

"One day after he compared himself to Jesus Christ, Trump is now selling a $60 'Trump endorsed' Bible," Republicans Against Trump posted. "Grifter gonna grift."

X user Ben Howe responded by quoting another Bible passage, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, which states: "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds."...  (our emphasis)

They'll sell like the devil.

QOTD -- Gagging Trump

“... Although this Court did not issue an order restricting Defendant’s speech at the inception of this case, choosing instead to issue an admonition, given the nature and impact of the statements made against this Court and a family member thereof, the District Attorney and an Assistant District Attorney, the witnesses in this case, as well as the nature and impact of the extrajudicial statements made by Defendant in the D.C. Circuit case (which resulted in the D.C. Circuit issuing an order restricting his speech), and given that the eve of trial is upon us, it is without question that the imminency of the risk of harm is now paramount...” -- Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of New York Juan Merchan issuing a gag order (pdf) on the Malignant Loser for his inflammatory and dangerous blathering concerning his hush money for porn stars case in Manhattan.  This should be the template for every trial in which the deranged, lawless Malignant Loser is a defendant.  He's a risk to the courts and to public safety, and he needs to be stopped.
