Selling The Surge

Glenn Greenwald's article on how the Bush Assministration is politicizing the military is disturbing. Courtesy of a former Bush-Cheney campaign flack as a consultant, Bushit's military leaders in Iraq are spinning the war to visiting media and think tank types, who return to the U.S. writing glowing reports (O'Hanlon and Pollack in the NY Times recently*) of the surge's "success." They've been taken on carefully planned, scripted, and brief "tours" of Baghdad, much like visiting politicos like Sens. McCain and Graham were. Using much the same media manipulation strategies that the Bush-Cheney campaigns used in 2000 and 2004, the political media consultants to the military are laying the groundwork for a media "surge" in September to try to convince the public that we need to give the surge more time (like January 2009?).
