The Speech

What a historic moment. So many memorable phrases, such vivid images and, above all, a winning attitude from Sen. Obama that got the 84,000 people gathered at Invesco Field up on their feet and cheering. He laid into McSame ("He doesn't get it. . . .I'm not ready to take a 10% chance on change") but also laid out his program in more detail, and made clear that middle class Americans can identify with his background and can trust him to champion their interests. Some Rethug operatives were stunned and worried; one of them text messaged to an on-air pundit, "Houston, we've got a problem." Many were downplaying next week's St. Paul convention, realizing that its chances of equalling the Democratic Convention were slim to none.

"Let's not make a big election about small things" was the way Sen. Obama capsulized where he wants to take his campaign. Last night was big.
