Rep. Anthony Weiner for Health Insurance Reform Spokesman

In watching the normally aggravating "Morning Joe" today, we finally had a person who articulated the progressive case for a public option: New York Rep. Anthony Weiner. Weiner had Joe Scarborough ("Douche-borough" in Jon Stewart's memorable smackdown) unable to counter his argument that the public option -- for Weiner, it would be expansion of Medicare eventually to all Americans -- was the most cost effective way of financing our health care. Rep. Weiner kept asking a tongue-tied Doucheborough to identify the contribution that for-profit insurance companies make to health care, and why should Americans pay tens of billions of dollars for insurance company overhead and profits that don't make us any healthier.
Weiner is smart as a whip, and the Douche-man was impressed enough to invite him back this Thursday.

Rep. Weiner also scores bonus points for getting engaged to Hillary Clinton's aide Huma Abedin, who turned heads during last year's Democratic primaries.

Yeah, Weiner was pretty impressive. For a backbencher, he's really making a name for himself pitching Medicare for all. Between Howard Dean yesterday and Weiner today, I think Scarborough's brain is about to explode. Weiner had him speechless "for the first time in 2 years" on the air. Dean had him pacing around the set so lost in thought he wasn't at his desk after the commercials. :o)

Both were so much more articulate and convincing than the president in arguing for reform, its embarrassing.

Speaking of Jon Stewart, apparently he and Weiner were roommates after college.

Good points, beowulf. It would have been a much better Meet the Press last weekend if either Weiner or Dean had replaced Tom Daschle to help Rachel take on "Preacher" Coburn and "Pig Dick" Armey.
