There are disturbing reports of House Minority Whip Eric Cantor meeting in private with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and assuring the Israeli leader that he and the Rethugs would "serve as a check" on the Administration if Israel's interests were affected. This could be interpreted as a violation of the Logan Act -- a felony -- which prohibits unauthorized Federal officials from communicating with a foreign government to influence that government's behavior on any disputes with the United States.
As Glenn Greenwald notes, the Rethugs and the right wing have gone to battle stations in the past when they perceive -- always falsely -- that a Dem official is too friendly with a foreign government. Now let's see what they say about Cantor's willingness to undermine U.S. policies toward Israel. < crickets chirping >
