Help

Here's a one-stop page for links to organizations accepting donations for Japanese earthquake/ tsunami relief. Also, go to www.usaid.gov for a list of vetted organizations that can accept donations (h/t to P.E.C.).

I don't know if they are covered by one of these other groups, but we shouldn't overlook our own local Fairfax county search and rescue team with courageous people and dogs who are regularly dispatched to such desperate areas such as the one in Japan now. Is there a way to donate to them, if they are called to serve? Thanks for the list. P.E.C.

Hi P.E.C- I checked and found that Fairfax search and rescue are fully reimbursed by either FEMA (for domestic emergencies) or USAID (in the case of disaster response overseas). Their website says they can't receive donations per se, but suggest checking out vetted charities via www.usaid.gov.

I'll go with one of the groups you gave us. Thanks! P.E.C.
