Shame

In a questionable procedural move late yesterday, Wisconsin Senate Rethugs voted on a seperate bill to strip collective bargaining rights from teachers and other public employees. The proposal to strip worker rights had previously been in a budget bill, which required a three-fifths quorum in the State Senate. No such quorum is apparently needed for a bill separate from budget issues. Thus, the Rethuglicans have made their bed with right-wing radical Gov. Scott "Too Much Johnnie" Walker and the corporate plutocrats who want unions eliminated and a one-sided political landscape.

Public opinion in Wisconsin has moved steadily away from Scottie and the Rethuglicans toward the public employees, and this political rabbit punch should further anger them. It's certainly awakened the so-called Reagan Democrats -- blue collar voters who have trended Rethuglican in recent years -- who now see their gains threatened by a greedy, unprincipled attack. As thousands of demonstrators chanted to the Rethugs in the Wisconsin State Capitol last night, "Shame!"
