World's Oldest Teenager Dies

When we heard of Dick Clark's death yesterday at age 82, we felt a nostalgic sadness. Our recollections of American Bandstand go back to when the telecast originated from Philadelphia in the late '50s and early '60s. Clark hosted the show for 30 years, became a successful producer of other shows, and had a late-career revival as host of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. The cultural impact of American Bandstand was huge; it showcased almost every contemporary artist, from Bill Haley to Run DMC and everyone in between. Even the teenage dancers had their own fan base among the viewers. RIP.
