Athletes To Be Proud Of

The 2012 Summer Olympics ended this evening in London, with a spectacular entertainment finale featuring some of the international stars the UK has produced. For U.S. athletes, the Olympics were a triumph, with the U.S. winning a total of 104 medals (46 gold, 29 silver, and 29 bronze), the most of any country, followed by China (87 total), Russia (82 total), and the UK (65 total).

What stood out in this Olympics was the dominance of U.S. women athletes, from gymnastics, to soccer, to basketball, to swimming, to track and field and more. They did the U.S. very proud, accounting for 56% of the medals (Chinese women also accounted for 56% of the medals for their country).

The London Olympics were a great success all around: the UK, Londoners, athletes, tourists, viewers. No "disconcerting" events, aside from international gaffe machine Willard "Mr. Mo' Shambles" Romney's attendance, or incidents to mar the 2-week Olympiad. As the Brits would say, "well done."
