Missouri Rethugs Pick Extremist for Senate Race
Yesterday, Rethuglican voters in Missouri selected right-wing extremist Rep. Todd Akin as their candidate to run for the Senate against incumbent Dem Sen. Claire McCaskill. Akin won a primary contest that pitted him against two slightly less radical tea bagger opponents. Dems were hoping that Akin would be the candidate to run against McCaskill, who was considered the most endangered Senate Dem up for reelection this year. Now, it looks like McCaskill has a fighting chance, especially considering Akin's far right, out of the mainstream views that play well in a Rethug primary, but might turn off independent suburban voters. We'll see. This is the Bible-belt, and the views of many in that State haven't changed since the Civil War.
