One of the most vile actions taken by Rethuglican politicians is the attempt to deny traditional Democratic voters the right to vote. In numerous States, voter suppression has taken the form of Byzantine new rules designed to discourage young, minority and elderly voters: ID laws, reducing voting places in Dem districts, shortening hours or reducing early voting opportunities.
In a true victory for one of the most important rights as citizens, Federal District Judge Peter Economus issued an injunction that will allow Ohio voters to cast early ballots, an important factor for African-American voters who often vote after church the Sunday before the election. An estimated 93,000 Ohio voters (mostly African-American) voted early in the 2008 Presidential elections, a fact that certainly didn't go unnoticed by Ohio's Rethuglican politicians. While their effort to disenfranchise voters has been frustrated, don't expect them to quit trying another scheme.
