Lyricist Hal David, 1921-2012

One of the most famous lyricists in American music passed away yesterday. Hal David was 91, and he formed the other half of a songwriting team with composer Burt Bacharach. His songs were performed by a range of artists, from Dionne Warwick ("Do You Know The Way to San Jose?", "Walk on By,"), B.J. Thomas ("Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"), Jerry Butler ("Make It Easy On Yourself"), Herb Alpert ("This Guy's In Love With You"), Jack Jones ("Wives and Lovers"), and even Tom Jones ("What's New, Pussycat?"). David and Bacharach created much of the pop music soundtrack of the 1960s, much as the Beatles / British Invasion created the rock music soundtrack. RIP.
