Before the Beltway media anoints New Jersey Gov. Chris "Kris Krispycreme" Christie as the savior of the Republic for his "centrism" and "pragmatism," it's worth reading Ana Marie Cox's piece in The Guardian, which asserts that Kris Krispycreme's a pretty standard Rethuglican pol. For example,
"He has an abysmal record on unions and worker protections...the legislation his office has put forward along those lines came directly from the Koch brothers-backed American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), an alliance that puts him in the same league as Tea Party favorite Scott Walker. He's taken an at-best ambivalent approach to gay rights: he vetoed marriage equality legislation in favor of demanding a voter referendum...Christie is also anti-choice to the point of vetoing $7.4m in women's health funding because it would have benefited New Jersey Planned Parenthood clinics. When it comes to economic policy, he favors low taxes for the wealthy and has joined other Republican governors in the largely symbolic refusal to participate directly in the insurance exchanges mandated by the Affordable Care Act."(our emphasis)Small wonder that Krispycreme was hailed by tea baggers and given the keynote spot at the hard right Rethuglican Convention last summer. (His wing nut star dimmed somewhat when he praised President Obama's response to Hurricane Sandy and recently blasted House Rethugs for blocking Sandy relief). However, despite his right wing record, don't expect a close examination of it from the "mainstream media," which has already created the legend that Krispycreme is a "moderate" can-do guy that Dems can work with.
