Crumbling Cartoon of the Day

The collapse of the I-5 bridge over the Skagit River in Washington State is a warning.  Almost 10 percent of America's 607,380 bridges are rated "structurally deficient," so there's a clear public purpose in funding infrastructure repair and replacement, not to mention the economic benefits.  But don't tell teahadist Rethugs.  From health care to gun safety to collapsing bridges, their message is "who cares?"

Yesterday, CBS morning news reported, with a guest commentator, that fuel efficient cars were one of the reasons the infrastructure is in such bad shape. Owners of fuel efficient cars don't buy as much fuel, therefore, don't pay enough tax into the system for roads and bridges to be repaired. Not one of the persons reporting this seemed to have his/her tongue in his/her cheek. I thought I would puke. P.E.C.

Ergo, everyone needs to buy a Hummer! Those persons may not have had their tongues in their cheeks, but we know where their heads were...
