Markey Victorious in Massachusetts

Rep. Ed Markey swept to victory yesterday in the special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by now  Secretary of State John Kerry.  Markey defeated his Rethuglican opponent, vulture capitalist and former Swiftboat mouthpiece Gabriel "Just Go" Gomez, by a 55 - 45 margin.  The Senator-elect is expected to be a strong voice for progressive issues, along with his stellar teammate Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Markey campaigned vigorously and was able to outspend Just Go in advertising.  Sen.-elect Markey will be up for re-election in 2014, when Kerry's term would have expired.
