The Battle for Texas

Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis at rally in Austin
Full disclosure:  we're totally in the tank for Texas State Sen. Wendy "Awesome" Davis, the one-woman pro-choice filibustering machine that smacked Texas Governor and future Just For Men spokesman Rick "Oops" Perry over his reactionary anti-women's reproductive rights legislation.  She had a rally today at the capitol in Austin, TX that rocked the thousands that assembled, and signaled that she's a force to be reckoned with in Texas politics.  Will that stop white Rethuglican men from trying to impose their ignorant views on the women of Texas?  You must be kidding.  But here's a taste of what the wingnut Rethugs can expect from Sen. Davis:
"Less than a week ago you were at the crux of a turning point in Texas history, you joined the ranks of brave men and women who love this state and fought for their liberties and preserving Texas values.  It was your voices lent to me that made it possible for me to stand those 13 hours."
She won't give up, and progressives in the mold of former Gov. Ann Richards and Sen. Ralph Yarborough are feeling more optimistic these days.  Texas will be a red state for some time, but the demographics are changing rapidly, and the Rick Perrys and Ted Cruzes will be running for cover in the years ahead.  Bet on it.
