Reports are indicating that a limited missile strike against selected targets in Syria could occur by Thursday. Responding to the Assad regime's apparent use of chemical weapons against its people, the Obama Administration has been coordinating with our allies and governments in the region, in addition to the United Nations. However, China and Russia have blocked U.S. attempts to take the issue up at the U.N.
With the opposition to the Assad regime containing significant numbers of al Qaeda or affiliated groups, there is no desire to take the regime down, but rather to force it to stop using chemical weapons in violation of international norms. As with many Middle Eastern struggles, there are no good options, only the lesser of two evils.
