The mess at the Department of Veterans Affairs continues with evidence that patient waiting lists were manipulated to falsely meet internal goals at several VA locations. The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, who has made veterans' care a personal issue with him going back at least to lengthy backlogs in veteran benefit claims, took the VA to the woodshed again last night.
It's hard to watch VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, who courageously called "B.S." on troop levels needed for invading Iraq as Army Chief of Staff, come off as a bland company guy whose "mad as hell" comment doesn't wash. But it's long past time for things to get shaken up at the VA. Long past.
