From The Sports Desk….
You don't have to be a San Francisco 49ers or Giants fan to feel some nostalgia for the demise of 54 year-old Candlestick Park (the 'Stick to most locals). Last night, they had a big party at the 'Stick, which had its last sporting event last month, and is scheduled for demolition in 2015. Paul McCartney performed a lengthy set, bookending the much briefer set played there in 1966 by the Beatles in their last concert. Fans of the 'Stick weren't pleased with its swirling winds and often strange-smelling, damp environment, but they'll be happy to recall moments of sports history, including Willie Mays' 3,000th hit, Joe Montana's throw to a leaping Dwight Clark winning an NFC title and trip to the Super Bowl, and the 7.1 earthquake during the 1989 World Series that shook the stadium -- and the fans -- to the core.
