Devastation and Need In Nepal

The scenes of devastation in Nepal following Saturday's 7.9 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks are heartbreaking.  The death count has risen to over 3,500 with more discoveries coming as rubble is excavated and as teams get into more remote areas cut off by tons of falling rock on mountain roads.  Tens of thousands are homeless, fleeing the area or camping in open spaces with little to their names.  Relief shipments are attempting to reach Nepal, but the Kathmandu airport is clogged and unable to handle the increased traffic.

Several sites designated by the UN as world historic landmarks have been totally destroyed, as seen in these "before and after" pictures.

Relief contributions can be sent to UNICEFUSA, OXFAM, and the World Food Programme, among other organizations.
