Turning Point for Same-Sex Marriage?
Some 30 minutes ago, the Supreme Court began to hear arguments in what is a landmark case over marriage equality. Obergefell v. Hodges combines four suits into one that will determine whether same-sex marriages must be allowed in all States, and whether same-sex marriages in one State will be recognized in other States.
The Court is expected to rule in June, and all eyes are on Justice Anthony Kennedy who has provided the fifth "swing" vote on key decisions (most notoriously on the Citizens United power-to-plutocrats decision). Kennedy provided the critical vote in striking down the Defense of Marriage Act two years ago, so he's generally believed to rule favorably on allowing same-sex marriages in all 50 states. Time will tell.
