Time's A-Wasting (Updated)

The breathless and fanciful reporting over whether Vice President Joe Biden will announce his candidacy for President has attained a life of its own.  We noted yesterday that some journanimalists have even gone to the extent of concocting scenarios of where, when and how Biden would announce, or wouldn't announce, or would, or wouldn't…..

Frankly, though, we're getting the feeling that, despite the continuing and understandable pain Biden obviously feels over his son's death last May, he's enjoying the sudden spotlight and the endless tease, to the detriment of the announced candidates, as political staff and contributors sit and wait for his "yes" or "no".  He's also run out of time in practical terms, as deadlines will pass next week to be placed on the ballots in several States.  So, we agree with the great Charles P. Pierce when he says that Biden risks squandering the good will he has by playing the waiting game, and that it will start looking more like "an exercise in discreet ratfcking" of frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

The usual Biden camp suspects are promising word in the next 48 hours, but they've been wrong before.  As the salty saying goes, "Pee or get off the pot," Joe.

UPDATE:  Michael Tomasky on why a Biden candidacy is a bad idea that's only gotten worse, and what the best tack for Biden would be at this point (with which we agree).
