Democracy Spring In Washington

An estimated 3,600 marchers demonstrated at the U.S. Capitol building yesterday calling for the elimination of big money in politics. Some 400 were arrested. The marchers began in Philadelphia some 9 days ago, and will continue for the rest of the week with a different focus each day (e.g., Racial Justice Day, Labor Solidarity Day, etc.).

The sinister effects of the Citizens United ruling are being felt in not only national elections but in state and local elections that are being distorted by political action committee money from individual plutocrats and large corporations pushing a right-wing agenda. The Democracy Spring effort needs to be an all-season one until the law is changed and the balance of power is shifted back to progressives.
