Mid-Week "By Bonds" Song

Celebrating his 77th birthday this month is singer Gary "U.S." Bonds, who had a handful of good-time hits in the early '60s, including "Quarter To Three," "Dear Lady Twist,"and "New Orleans." He wrote a wry autobiography, "By U.S. Bonds," in which he recounts a tour with the Beatles and performances with Springsteen among other sagas. Fifty-five years ago, he had this top 10 song, which captures the joy felt by generations of students when school is out for the summer (except for the line, "I can root for the Yankees from the bleachers." Not here.)
