As a con artist supreme during the campaign, neo-fascist demagogue Donald "Rump" Trump fired up the xenophobic mouthbreathers with promises to build a wall on the Mexican border, and to make Mexico pay for it. Most lucid people knew he was bullshitting his gullible followers. Now, with a few weeks before the inauguration, he's shrugged off that campaign promise, too: he's asking Congress to front the costs for the "wall", which his staff is now trimming back as a "wall or fence upgrade." Moreover, he thinks Mexico will later reimburse us for the "wall," presumably through high tariffs on their exports, which will hit his xenophobic mouthbreathers in the chops with higher product costs (Mexico is the U.S.'s third largest trading partner). In retaliation, Mexico would likely raise their tariffs on incoming U.S. goods, resulting in layoffs for domestic businesses exporting to Mexico. That won't end well.
Rump's vanishing promises to "drain the swamp," to jail Secretary Clinton, and now this may disillusion or even anger some of his cultish followers. But when he could, as he said, shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose support, it's hard to know where they'd draw the line with him and his lies.
