You couldn't have a more dramatic and devastating example of how climate change has impacted weather than by looking at Hurricane Harvey. Elevated water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico contributed to the severity and longevity of the hurricane, and these weather catastrophes are becoming more frequent and regular. And another large hurricane is right behind.
In these days of a warming climate caused by human activity, perhaps we should drop the "100-year flood" or the "500-year flood" terminology and get used to "historic" weather events occurring multiple times within a decade.
