Trump's Self-Inflicted Holy (Land) Mess

After mentally unstable con man Donald "Rump" Trump's capricious, unnecessary and conflict-provoking announcement that the U.S. would recognize Jerusalem as Israel's "eternal and indivisible" capital and move its embassy there, Israel is preparing for another day of disruption and violence. The announcement prompted negative reactions around the world, even as it was pushed by Israel's militant Bibi "Bomb Bomb" Netanyahu and his right-wing Likudniks and their friends in the U.S. (like prominent Rump supporter / contributor and gambling mogul Sheldon "Smelly Shelly" Adelson).

Today, at the request of the UK, France, Italy and five other nations, the U.N. Security Council is meeting to discuss the action by Rump, which reversed decades of bipartisan policy that the status of the holy city for three great religions be negotiated by the Israelis and Palestinians. The action appears to violate a December 2016 UN resolution that reiterated Jerusalem's status as a divided city pending future negotiations. It would also seem to torpedo whatever "peace negotiations" Russian go-between and indictment target Jared "Mr. Ivanka Trump" Kushner was incompetently pursuing, given the rising anger among not only the Palestinians, but also Muslim allies in the region.

It remains to be seen what lasting damage this move will create, but it's recklessness and pointlessness can't be debated.
