Whoa—Nunes’s speech and debate clause Congressional immunity may not protect him from liability for conduct outside Congress. Depending on the facts, Nunes may have put himself in middle of a conspiracy to obstruct justice. He better beware: There r no secrets in this White House https://t.co/wD1atYgtR3— Norm Eisen (@NormEisen) January 31, 2018
Let’s be blunt: the President is about to release a document the FBI is effectively calling a lie and whose release his own Justice Department describes as extremely reckless.— Benjamin Wittes (@benjaminwittes) January 31, 2018
Reminds me of that time Abraham Lincoln....oh never mind... https://t.co/VJhpcG7r0Z
The public has a limited understanding of FISA processes, this cherry picked memo will push falsehoods to Americans undermining trust in institutions & harming FBI ability to protect our country - INSANE https://t.co/DOKQaApBWI— Clint Watts (@selectedwisdom) January 31, 2018
Aside from being completely unethical and possibly illegal, Trump's interference with DOJ on the Nunes memo was also a major tactical mistake. Let a thousand leaks flow.— Matthew Miller (@matthewamiller) January 31, 2018

#BREAKING: During a private meeting in December, Trump asked Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein if he was "on my team."— Caroline O. (@RVAwonk) January 31, 2018
**Trump then offered congressional Republicans a list of questions they should ask Rosentein during his testimony**https://t.co/ozocP0pxfB
And, this little Republican narrative killer:
EXCLUSIVE: Controversial FBI agent Peter Strzok played a key role in the decision for James Comey to send a letter to Congress about the bureau’s investigation of newly discovered Hillary Clinton emails days before the election, CNN has learned https://t.co/W3njKDv8PT pic.twitter.com/Dd7Q3xnrWx— CNN (@CNN) January 31, 2018
I read blogs every day, and I can't remember a day like today. The news items are coming in so quickly it's impossible to keep up, much less process all of it.
ReplyDeleteThe SOTU and all the feedback and lies to unpack and sort
The train/truck crash near Charlottesville, of all places, with a trainload of Republicans headed for a luxury retreat at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. And it's being labeled a kamikaze mission by rightwing cuckoobirds. Sadly, the truck driver was killed.
The “retirement” of pointy-headed Trey Gowdy, king of the Benghazi investigations
The FBI standing up to the release of The Memo
Nunes as a Useful Fool being played by Trumpists with the Memo as a blackmail tool
I can't even.
By tomorrow there will undoubtedly be more crap to sift through. My brain hurts!
The Liar in Chief speaks: " I will release this, ah, what's it called, um, memo. I haven't read it yet. JEEZ, give me time. I'm BUSY. I'm a BUSY man. I tell ya that all the time!! JEEZ. RUH OH!! I just spilled Covefe all over it. Damn. Need to get a new copy. Will get back to ya!!!!"
ReplyDeletedonnah - we know the feeling. It's almost too much to absorb, so we try to pick and choose among the many insane goings-on and toss in an occasional bit of reality to leaven things.
ReplyDeleteFM - 4 pages sounds like 3 and a half pages more than the Very Stable Genius can handle.
I think you do a great job getting the key stories posted. That's why I'm glad I found this place! It's a nice island in the ocean of crap we are swimming in these days.
ReplyDeleteIf we don't keep boosting each other up, there will be a landslide of despair. We have to keep moving forward!
Things certainly do move fast. The Republicans' golem / memo has apparently turned on its creators even before being formally unleashed against their enemies. This administration exists in a state of permanent fiasco.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why Gowdy decided to retire, and why so many others have. If the train crash was a kamikaze mission, most likely it was an effort by the Republicans on board to seppuku their way out of the ongoing humiliation.
donnah - thanks! We're glad you found us, too.
ReplyDeleteInfidel - when you're an incompetent, like Nunes and his White House co- conspirators are, the lies and alibis fall apart faster than you can say "treason." Also, I believe it was either Wittes or Bharara who said no one wins a leak war with the FBI.
